Turning conflict into calm-and AI capability into a trusted product story.

Kids First helps separated parents rewrite emotionally charged messages before they are sent. My work connects AI interaction design, privacy communication, product metrics and acquisition strategy.

A differentiated AI feature had a discovery and trust problem.

The Conflict Filter understands emotional subtext that keyword rules miss, then suggests calmer, logistics-focused language. But users needed confidence that it would preserve intent, protect private data and work in real conflict-not only in ideal examples.

High-intent insight: one parent can benefit immediately, without waiting for the co-parent to adopt the app.

Transparency and control are core product functionality.

Show the difference

Original and rewritten messages remain visible so users understand what changed.

Never auto-send

The AI suggests. The parent confirms, edits or dismisses every rewrite.

Admit uncertainty

Ambiguous messages trigger clarification instead of false confidence.

Privacy built into the story

Names are removed before processing, messages are not used for training, and processing stays within Australian AWS infrastructure. These are not footnotes-they are conversion-critical product facts.

Distribution had to match a private, high-stress category.

Public social sharing is an unrealistic growth loop for separation. I focused on high-intent search, referrals from lawyers and mediators, and trusted community environments where users already seek help.

“Type what you feel. Send what works.”

The framing explains the emotional benefit in seconds without over-explaining the technology.

Metrics that connect AI to product value

  • Rewrite acceptance rate as a proxy for output trust
  • AI-user versus non-AI-user 30-day retention
  • Correlation between rewrite usage and long-term retention
  • Qualitative review sentiment about the AI experience

The best AI can feel invisible: users remember the calmer outcome, not the model behind it.
